How to play

  1. 1 Spot the number

Every carriage wears a four‑digit number. Say this one is 5435.

  2. 2 Do the maths

Use all four digits, in any order, with plus, minus, times, divide and brackets.

  3. 3 Make 10

    (5 + 3) ÷ 4 × 5 = 10. Then the doors close and the next carriage pulls in.

A game Sydney already plays

Ask around on a Sydney train and someone will know it. Spot the number on the carriage, then race your mates to make 10. No calculators. Nobody knows who started it; it has been passed from friend to friend for years.

It isn’t only ours. In Japan the same puzzle is played with ticket numbers and called the “ten puzzle”.

Why we made it

Maths gets easier when it feels like a game, not a test. MAKE 10 turns the carriage game into a two‑minute daily puzzle: a little mental arithmetic, a small win, and a new way to see numbers.

Free to play. Made for anyone who can add up, at any age.
